Eventful learning in quality pre-service science teacher education
With Stephen Ritchie, Alberto Bellocchi, & Donna King
This video-based ethnographic study addresses the need for research into quality pre-service science teacher education by identifying successful university classroom learning and teaching events that can be reproduced by lecturers in different contexts to enhance the successful induction of beginning teachers. The study aims to discover the relationship between fine-grained moment-to-moment shifts in emotional climate and salient events in science teacher education classes. This discovery will help generate criteria for quality learning and teaching, and build a theory of eventful learning for pre-service teacher education. This theory will achieve the elusive outcome of the integration of learning about teaching and emotional arousal.
